AAUW Scholars Recognition Program

2018 Reception for High School Scholars and Scholarship Recipients

On Saturday, April 14, the Cowlitz County Branch of AAUW held their annual event to honor their scholarship recipients and junior girls from the three area high schools. The reception was held at The Grove, with the honorees’ families in attendance.

Kaylee Hatfield was awarded a $1,000 scholarship. She is a Toutle Lake graduate, and is currently a sophomore at George Fox University, majoring in Psychology.

Karla Galvan-Gonzalez was honored as the recipient of AAUW’s 2017 LCC Foundation endowed scholarship. She is a R.A. Long graduate, and is currently in the nursing program at LCC.

In an effort to encourage the study of subjects in which women are under-represented, AAUW began a program to honor high school girls in the areas of Mathematics, Science, and Technology. These junior girls are selected by teachers at each school.  Each girl received a certificate.

From Kelso, Kaylee V. Seaman was recognized for Mathematics and Katherine Ezukameow for Science. From Mark Morris, Madison Pond was recognized for Science and Rylli Whitney for Mathematics.  From R.A. Long, Delaney R. Morgan was recognized for Technology, Madeline Wolff for Mathematics, and Abriana Alba-Estrada for Science.

AAUW is a nationwide organization that advances equity for women and girls through advocacy, education, research and philanthropy. A college degree is not a requirement to join the Cowlitz County Branch.  For more information about AAUW activities, please contact Sharon Watt at 360-225-2294.
